Project-Based Learning
STEAM uses Project-Based Learning as a teaching method where students work on projects that are engaging and hands-on. They investigate and respond to real-world problems, questions or challenges using critical thinking, collaboration and creativity. PBL fosters critical thinking and leads to deeper understanding. Students' voices are heard when they are given a choice of what they want to learn.

Exemplary examples of PBL in the classroom:
"More Fun Than a Barrel of...Worms" by Diane Curtis
"Geometry Students Angle into Architecture Through Project Learning" by Sara Armstrong
"March of the Monarchs: Students follow the Butterflies' Migration" by Diane Curtis. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The teachers in all three of these videos provided opportunities for their students to collaborate with their peers and self-direct their learning. The teachers would present the information and then allowed the students to take over and go in whichever direction the learning lead them. The students used technology as a digital resource that added to their learning. When students choose what they learn, they remember what they learn. When learning about real-life subjects and subjects that interest them, they are more engaged and eager to learn. The teacher is a guide, and the students are in control. Project-Based Learning is a wonderful addition to all classrooms!
